The job market for legal assistant jobs is increasing. This is because as the population ages, the Baby Boomers are becoming more interested in staying active and involved in society. For example, they want to be able to help people with legal problems and legal documentation. In fact, many boomers think of their attorney as a sort of elder care aide. Legal nurse consulting is one of the fastest-growing fields in the legal assisting field.
As the baby boomer generation ages, many legal assistant jobs will be available. Legal aid is one such area. Another growing field for legal nurse consulting will be working as a court-appointed special needs attorney. These specially trained attorneys will work with indigent defendants who cannot afford private legal counsel. While some special needs individuals may not qualify for public legal representation, most will qualify for employment as a court-appointed legal aid associate.
There are many reasons why the legal aid profession is projected to be one of the fastest-growing fields in the nursing field. One is the aging of the Baby Boom generation. Another is the U.S. v. healthcare debate. And yet another is the growing need for such professionals as nursing home court-appointed counsel. It’s simply an easy career choice for many individuals.
Most legal nurse consulting jobs require a four-year degree. Some require a bachelor’s degree. And although some require only a high school diploma, it is not uncommon for those with degrees to also serve as licensed practical nurses (LPN) or registered nurses (RN). These nurses can work directly for a defense lawyer and give legal advice to the defendant, or they may be employed by a rehabilitation center providing care for such defendants. However, it is important to note that most states do not permit LPNs to give legal advice in the courtroom.
Legal nurse professionals can find employment in a variety of fields. They can be employed by governmental regulatory agencies, private medical offices, insurance companies, law firms, defense lawyers, and rehabilitation centers. A legal nurse can work on either a contract basis or through an agency. Some call centers have been known to hire staff simply to file legal documents.
To obtain legal nurse consulting work, you would have to meet a certain set of criteria. While the criteria may vary from place to place, most will expect you to have a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution. Some of the other required documents include a resume, a list of references, and a cover letter. You would need to pass an oral board exam and take a state board certification course before working on a case.
